Ed Youngblood's relationship with the American Motorcycle Association began in 1970 as managing editor of the American Motorcyclist magazine. Since then Ed has served as Director of Government Relations, Acting Executive Director, Associate Executive Director and finally President of the AMA in 1981. During his tenure with the AMA, Ed provided the leadership necessary to bring the AMA, the nations oldest and largest voluntary membership organization, from near bankruptcy in the early 70's to a viable, growing organization which now has over 220,000 members. He directly assisted in founding the Legislative Supporter Program in 1978, which has helped to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in support of the American Motorcyclists Political Action Committee (AMPAC), a federal PAC and a first for motorcyclists. Ed was elected to the Federation International Motorcyclists' (FIM) Technical Committee in 1971 and served as Vice President for FIM for over 25 years before retiring in 1996. During this time he provided guidance for FIM's sponsorship of the 1st International Riders Conference on public policy issues in 1997. Ed actively worked for the establishment of the American Motorcycle Heritage and served as a Trustee on the Clayton Foundation, an organization that raises and distributes funds to individuals who have been injured in motorcycle competition.
