Angel Richardson

Class of 2002
Freedom Fighters Award

Angel Richardson

Angel has been riding her own motorcycle for 36 years and involved with motorcycle rights for over 34 years. From the time she was ten years old and was told “don’t you dare get on that Harley with that Carson boy” Angel has had a passion for motorcycles. Angel did get on that motorcycle with “that Carson boy” and became one of the strongest advocates for the people that ride them.

Serving on the Board of Directors of ABATE of Michigan, the Motorcycle Riders Foundation, Michigan Confederation of Clubs, and being a motorcycle safety instructor, awareness instructor and director, a lobbyist agent, and grassroots activist, Angel was always available to help any organization in any State with whatever was needed. Angel was instrumental in drafting and

getting sponsors from both sides of the aisle to eventually getting SB1012 passed into law in Michigan. This law prohibited law enforcement from randomly confiscating motorcycles and not returning them to the rightful owner. The law ensured that motorcycles were transported and housed in a safe and secure manner until the owner was located and provided penalties for

breaking that law.

Angel has been a speaker at several functions related to motorcycle safety and awareness and legislative issues including being on the Committee representing motorcyclists at the Office of Highway Safety Planning. She is best described with words like tenacious, strong and humble but that would be such a small part of who she really is. If Angel is on your side you have an ally for life.

Always able to look at the “big picture” and putting principles in front of personalities, Angel was able to work alongside hundreds of people while interacting with Governors, House Representatives, State Senators and members of Congress. From being involved in numerous legislative efforts for motorcyclists throughout the years and a longtime advocate of our military and veterans, she is amazed at the kindness of others and strives to treat everyone fairly and equally.

From being involved legislatively with the Federal Helmet law initiative and working to secure funding for motorcycle safety and awareness alongside a multitude of other freedom fighters, Angel is a force to be reckoned with. She is the recipient of several awards from organizations that appreciated her efforts and now is most humbled and extremely honored to be inducted as a Freedom Fighter.
